SET DRESSING WORK

It was an honor to join this world-class team of Set Dressers to help finish the film, under the Art Direction of Rob Desue. I took on the escape-sequence across Pinocchio’s Nose-Bridge and the Dogfish Blowhole, as well as the Bombed Church Interior. I also helped dress a variety of shots in the Italian Village, Geppetto’s Workshop, Mussolini’s Fascist Youth Camp and the surrounding Rock Cliffs.

A real career highlight was dressing sets to go on display in the MOMA in NYC. (see bottom for exhibit photos)

LANDSCAPES WORK

I developed show textures, mentored Junior Artists, and sculpted organic environments to stage spec under the Production Design of the amazing Curt Enderle. I ran point on: Geppetto’s Workshop Exterior plaster, stone and ground sculpt; all Village & Church buildings and streets; the Fascist Youth Camp trenches, road, grounds & cliffs; Pinocchio’s RP Nose-Grows atop the Lighthouse; and all Dogfish Interiors — jaw, throat, blowhole and stomach-island.

A sweet challenge was designing the animatable saplings, which grow into the stone-pine from which the wooden boy is carved. But the biggest challenge was keeping my cat off all the tiny flowers and “Big-Ass'“ Pinocchio parts while fabricating from home.

MOMA’S “CRAFTING PINOCCHIO”

Below are some sets we dressed, repaired and packed for NYC’s MOMA. What a beautiful book-end to see set pieces I fabricated — some out of my garage and living room during the 2020 Covid-shutdown — on display in such an esteemed venue.
