This epic journey offered a wealth of landscapes! Under the Art Direction of Alice Bird and Prod Design of Nelson Lowry, our fabrication team ran the gamut creating bamboo groves, pine forests, snowscapes, fern-filled cemeteries, scorched village ruins, and Origami Boat(s) built of 365k+ paper leaves. I specialized in foam-carving and texturing, and my pride-and-joys included: snow-buried Statue Ruins; Sariatu's Cave; Skull Island jaw and beach; the Whale Carcass interior; and the Cemetery Riverbank.
On Kubo, I learned the joy of shepherding onto screen the sets you helped make. I adopted two Sr. Dressers' sets mid-shoot, including all Boat sequences, half a dozen Journey Montage shots, the MoonKing's Origami Islands and Temple, and the epic final shot in Hanzo's Fortress. I stayed on to dress marketing spots and press displays, as well as the post-credits Odokuro button.
